JOB : Contrat doctorat en littérature océanienne à l’Université de Postdam

Appel à candidatures pour un poste de doctorant.e en littératures océaniennes à l’université de Postdam en Allemagne, avec financement pour un grand nombre d’activités de recherche.

Oceanian Poetic Collaborations

Oceanian Poetic Collaborations investigates different collaborative dimensions of poetic events across the Oceanian sea of islands. The project combines three integrated project streams: the first sets out to challenge text-based approaches to postcolonial poetry more generally. It studies Pacific Islander poetry by attending to the sonic assemblages it sustains and creates between and across human, yet also more-than-human presences and the material world. The second project stream focusses on the collaborative politics of a new generation of poets who seek new medial forms to combat climate injustice and ongoing patterns of colonisation. The third project stream sets out to build a curated archive of Oceanian video poems.

The project is led by Lars Eckstein (University of Potsdam), in collaboration with the project’s Mercator Fellow, CHamoru scholar, poet and activist Craig Santos Perez.

Oceanian Poetic Collaborations is part of a larger DFG (German Research Foundation)- funded Research Unit (Forschungsgruppe) based at the University of Potsdam, Germany, titled Collaborations: Assemblages, Articulations, Alliances. The Research Unit starts in January 2025, and initially runs for four years. Call for applications: 1 PhD position (starting April 2025)

Oceanian Poetic Collaborations invites applications from scholars and/or practitioners who wish to write a dissertation in the field of Oceanian poetry that ideally addresses performed poetry (anglophone and/or francophone) in the context of decolonisation and/or climate justice. However, any project proposal that makes a vital contribution to the study of Oceanian poetry is welcome. Applicants must have completed an M.A. degree or equivalent, ideally in Literary Studies, English, French, or a related field. The working language of the Research Unit is English. We specifically encourage applications from Oceania (and its diasporas).

The successful candidate will be enrolled for a PhD at the University of Potsdam and receive a work contract for 3 years and 9 months. While the home institution is the University Potsdam, candidates are invited to spend a significant amount of time at partner institutions in Oceania. Substantial additional funds will be available for relocation and return flights, research, workshops and conference travel.
